The King of Bachata, Romeo Santos, Heats up the Stage in San Antonio

October 21, 2023 | Nimsi Coronado

thousands of Latinos came together to see him perform for his Formula Vol. 3 Tour. DJ Mad started off the night with some classic Spanish songs and today’s hits, such as Selena, Mana, but also Bad Bunny, and Peso Pluma. With those with drinks in their hands, raising their cups, waiting for the camera to point towards them to see themselves on the big screen and point in excitement. The DJ purposely turning off the music for a few seconds in certain songs, to hear the crowd sing in unison as it echoed throughout the venue. Before Romeo’s entrance, DJ Mad made his way to the catwalk section of the stage, to fire up the audience even more, this time having them raise and swing their hands up in the air.

As the lights illuminated the stage, it highlighted Romeo’s band separated into sections, the left and right side. He rose from the back middle of the stage, wearing a matching blue jean jacket and jeans, with a slight holed white shirt underneath and a kick of brown boots, and sunglasses. For the first song he remained at the main area of the stage, Lorena Santos, joined him for vocals and even as a duet. A massive screen played visuals that complimented the songs; close ups of instruments playing, cars driving down the street, and a game of dominos. He made his way towards the catwalk waving hi to the fans at barricade, as the third song almost ended, he threw his sunglasses out into the crowd.

Throughout the night, it was overflowing with culture, Romeo giving shoutouts to his fans coming from all over south and central America, to Colombians, Hondurans, Puerto Ricans, Uruguayans and Mexicans. Giving cheers to them as well, as he also had his own drink in hand. Being a hot night in music and a hot night literally too, with the surprise pyrotechnics on stage shooting out at the beat. Romeo was super charismatic and engaging with his fans, asking how long they have been listening to his music, all whilst expressing his love and gratitude and even threw his jacket into the crowd as well, as fans reached in eagerness hoping to get to it first. As a second surprise, Romeo brought up a fan from the crowd, on stage to sing a duet of “Ella y Yo”. She got a little shy, but it was not a problem for Romeo, he immediately made her feel comfortable to the moment he even gave her a lap dance and kissed her on the cheek. After the interlude, Romeo had an outfit change and after that point was now wearing a white top with no sleeves, paired with brown pants and his Jordans, to continue the second part of the setlist.

In the end, Romeo’s vocals carried such an emotional depth, and the velvety tone of his voice differentiates his from any other artist’s, which makes it recognizable and unique. He created such an intimate energy and environment with acknowledging his fans as much as he could. His sensual dance moves sparked the audience to dance too, those who came with their partner, even with little space they had in their seats, they had their bachata moves ready to go. It was nothing but endless smiles the whole performance.
